Shallywags limited to two hits in 10-1 loss to Jacksonville

Three Jacksonville pitchers combined to limit host Shallotte to two hits in a 10-1 Old North State League baseball win for the Ospreys on Thursday night.

Yohandel Santana had a no-hitter through five and one-third innings until a bunt single by Ryan Davis.

Santana went six innings with 11 strikeouts. Luka Moore pitched two innings, allowing a single by Ryan Yaroshuk in the seventh. Caelon Phillips retired the Shallywags in order in the ninth with two strikeouts.

Jacksonville took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a homer to center by Andres Cortes with two out.

The Ospreys went up, 2-0, in the second after a leadoff double by Jason Mack, who stole third and came home on a single by Andrew Hermanson.

A 2-run homer by Michael Ciavolella in the fourth pushed the lead to 4-0.

Shallotte got on the board in the bottom of the fourth following walks to Trey Pierce and Tate Morris. Pierce scored on a ground out by Jacob Koenig after stealing third.

Ciavolella had a 2-run single in the eighth.

Jack Painter had a 2-run double in a 4-run ninth for the visitors (11-4).

Shallotte (9-7) visits the Ospreys on Saturday for a 7 p.m. start.

Zach Steagall had six strikeouts in two and two-thirds innings for Shallotte.
