Despite missing several offensive linemen, West Brunswick football coach Shane Handy saw some good things at scrimmages with Green Hope and host Princeton on Friday night.

The Trojans were originally scheduled to host Trask but due to some miscommunication on the part of Trask, West had to go to plan B and make a lengthy trip.

In terms of skill personnel, quarterback Josiah Borton threw several touchdown passes on the road Friday.

“We marched the ball down the field pretty good,” Handy said. “Our tailbacks ran the ball really well, Marzell (Stanley) and Jaquell Davis.

“K’Veon Griffin caught a deep touchdown and made some good catches. So did Eden Romero. (Receivers) Nick Graham and Israel Saunders had some good stuff.”

Each team ran 10 plays at a time on offense.

“We didn’t show our whole package,” Handy said. “We wanted to get some things on tape to see where we are.”

It was a step in the preseason countdown.

“This coming week, we’ll finalize some things offensively and defensively, who’s playing where and what we’re going to put in,” Handy said. “We’ll try to get better in our fundamentals.”

West hosts the Bash at the Beach on Thursday and Friday. The Trojans take on Northside-Jacksonville on Friday at 8:30 p.m.

The season opener is at home against South Brunswick on August 22 at 7 p.m.
