Trojans take season-opening 34-14 triumph over South

West Brunswick faced an early deficit but came back for a decisive 34-14 win over visiting South Brunswick in the season opener on Friday night.

Jaquell Davis and Josiah Borton had rushing touchdowns in the second quarter to put the Trojans ahead to stay after a 98-yard pick six by Tyler Johnson had given the Cougars a 7-0 lead with 9:44 remaining in the half.

Davis’ second rushing TD provided the hosts with a 21-7 lead with 8:18 to go in the third quarter.

Marzell Stanley’s score with 1:39 left in the third provided a 27-7 advantage.

Jude Surigao had a scoring reception from Borton to complete West’s scoring.

West Brunswick will be home to take on Whiteville on Friday at 7 p.m.
