West Brunswick continues its varsity football schedule in the Carolina Coastal Conference tonight at North Brunswick. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Trojans are 4-2 overall and 1-1 in league play after a 34-7 loss at Hoggard (5-0, 1-0), the ninth-ranked team in the state by HighSchoolOT.
Israel Saunders caught a 20-yard pass from Josiah Borton for West’s score against the Vikings last week. The Trojans had some other red zone opportunities.
West didn’t practice Monday with school closed for the weather.
“We practiced a little bit different due to that,” said Trojans coach Shane Handy. “We’ve had a pretty good week of practice.”
Handy said North Brunswick (2-4, 1-1 CCC) presents a lot of things to prepare for.
“We’ve just got to play great defense,” he said. “Be able to play with great pad level and fly around.
“We need to win special teams, for sure.
“Offensively, we just need to be consistent. We need to block a little more consistent.”
Handy is hopeful that offensive lineman Christian Mendoza will be healthy to play.
