The Southeastern Christian Academy varsity girls basketball team will play for the state championship of the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association 1-A classification on Saturday.
The Lady Warriors (17-5) will meet Halifax Academy (17-5) in the annex of the Greensboro Coliseum on Saturday at noon.
Southeastern’s girls advanced with a 60-39 semifinal win over visiting Lawrence Academy on Tuesday night as freshman Angelina Lauver scored 21 points with 11 rebounds.
Shaniyah Brown added 15 points in the victory. The scoring column included Ella Lynch with nine points, Cohlie Bynum and Ella Gregory with five points each, Layden Lyons (3) and My’angel Evans (2).
The Lady Warriors were the No. 2 seed for the state tournament. Lawrence was No. 3. Halifax, the fourth seed, was a 57-27 winner over visiting North Hills Christian (14-9) of Salisbury in the semifinals.
The Lawrence girls (22-5) won their last two games in four meetings with Halifax this season.
Southeastern boys topped
Visiting New Garden Friends of Greensboro took a 50-39 win in an NCISAA boys semifinal at Southeastern in the second game Tuesday night.
The Warriors (19-4) had a 35-31 lead in the fourth quarter before the Bears (19-10) made a late surge with a diamond and one press.
Ziyon Smith had 13 points and nine rebounds for the Warriors. Uzziah Marlowe had 12 points and five assists. Grady Price scored 10.
