West Brunswick’s baseball and softball teams have taken a pair of Carolina Coast Conference sweeps on the road.
The Trojans were 5-2 winners at Hoggard on Friday night and topped host North Brunswick, 10-2, on Tuesday night in baseball.
The softball team got a 9-1 victory at Hoggard and prevailed, 9-6, at North Brunswick.
The Trojans are 7-1 in softball and 2-1 in league play.
Mylee Sneed was 3-for-3 at Hoggard with a double, a home run, three runs and three RBIs.
Pitcher Pressley Wilson helped her own cause with a homer and two RBIs. She allowed four hits and three walks while striking out 12.
Also getting hits against the Vikings were Kady Long, Brooke Somers (double), Alivia West and Maddie Hutzell. Natalie Ward had two RBIs.
West scored three runs in the top of the first and never trailed, outhitting the Vikings, 8-4.
The Trojans also tallied three runs in the top of the first at North, but the Scorpions tied the score in the bottom of the frame. West went ahead to stay with three runs in the second.
Long had two hits with a double and three RBIs on Tuesday night. Sneed had two hits with a triple and scored two runs. Olivia Brown had a double and an RBI. Ward had a hit and two RBIs.
Brylee Arnold, Hutzell and Somers all had hits at North.
Wilson pitched a complete game. She allowed six hits and six runs (four earned) with three walks and 12 strikeouts.
The Trojans host South Brunswick on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Baseball
The Trojans broke the game open at North from a tie at 2 with eight runs in the sixth inning, finishing with a 10-4 lead in hits.
“Good win over a county rival,” said West coach Greg Wrape. “Guys had great energy and stayed in it all game until the bats came to life.”
Driving in a pair of runs apiece for the Trojans were third baseman Kaleb Faulders, pitcher Cooper Wilson and center fielder Josiah Borton.
First baseman Wesley Wilson had two hits, two runs and an RBI. Left fielder Nate Fish had two hits. Shortstop Jaden Gore had a hit and scored.
Second baseman Fisher Hair had a hit, a run and an RBI. Right fielder Argo drew a walk, had an RBI and scored a run. Catcher Griffin Cox had a hit.
Cooper Wilson pitched a complete game. He allowed four hits and two runs (one earned) with two walks and five strikeouts.
“Cooper did a good job attacking hitters and eliminating freebies on the mound,” Wrape said.
Wesley Wilson and Faulders handled the pitching at Hoggard. Wilson yielded three hits and one run over five innings with three walks and six whiffs. Faulders went two innings with two hits and one run (unearned) with one walk and one strikeout.
Fish had two hits with a double and an RBI against the Vikings. Cooper Wilson had a hit, a run and an RBI. Borton had a hit and scored a run. Hair had a hit, a run and an RBI. Argo drove in a run.
“Guys played together for the entire game, doing so one pitch at a time,” Wrape said. “Great energy and contributions from everyone the entire night.”
The Trojans are 4-4 overall and 2-1 in league play going into a home game with New Hanover on Friday night at 6:30 p.m.
