vs. Green Level
The Trojans withstood a 7-run seventh inning by the Gators (6-8).
“They are not always pretty,” said West coach Greg Wrape. “I think we settled a little early and did not do a good job of playing the entire game.
“However, in the end, we figured out a way to get it done. Big effort by Wesley Wilson on the mound.”
Wilson allowed five hits over five and one-third innings. He yielded one run (earned) with five walks and three strikeouts.
Freshman Cayden Wood had three RBIs and Kaleb Faulders drove in two. Josiah Borton and Matthew Argo also had RBIs.
Getting two hits each were Fisher Hair, Argo and Wood.
Faulders, Borton and Jaden Gore had one hit each.
at Laney
West got out to a 6-0 lead with a 3-run third inning.
“Guys just played hard all game,” Wrape said. “Even when they came back, we just kept answering them and refused to lose.
“Probably our best offensive game of the year.”
The Trojans loaded the bases in the eighth inning and got the deciding run when Argo hit a fielder’s choice to the shortstop.
West improved to 4-3 in league play. Laney (10-3, 5-2 Carolina Coast) had dealt the Trojans an 11-0 defeat in the league opener in Shallotte on March 10.
Argo and Wood each had two RBIs in the rematch. Driving in one run apiece were Faulders, Borton, Wilson and Griffin Cox.
Argo and Wood each had three hits against the Bucs. Cox had two hits. Getting one hit each were Borton (double), Cooper Wilson, Wesley Wilson and Gore.
Cooper Wilson and Faulders each pitched four innings.
