— West Brunswick opened its 2025-26 varsity boys basketball season with a 75-41 win over visiting South Columbus in Bryant Edwards’ first game as coach of the Trojans. Senior Matthew McKenney had 23 points on 8 of 9 field goal shooting and five assists. Scotland County junior transfer Jerrison Dixon hit 7 of 9 from the floor and had 21 points. Football standout K’Veon Griffin added 10 points.

— Juniors James McLean and Ari Tanner scored goals as Hoggard defeated West Forsyth, 2-0, for the 8-A boys soccer state championship at Guilford on Thursday night.

— Louisiana was a 34-30 college football winner at Arkansas State on Thursday night.

— Houston sacked Josh Allen eight times in a 23-19 win over visiting Buffalo on Thursday night.

— N.C. State hosts Florida State tonight (ESPN, 8 p.m.) and Hawaii visits Nevada-Las Vegas in college football (Fos Sports 1, 10:30 p.m.).

— The Carolina Hurricanes play at Winnipeg tonight (ESPN+, 8 p.m.).

— Wake Forest was topped, 84-83, by No. 15 Texas Tech on Thursday night in men’s basketball in the Bahamas. The Deacons take on Memphis tonight (CBS Sports, 7 p.m.). No. 1 Purdue plays the Red Raiders in the Bahamas event tonight (CBS Sports Network, 9:30 p.m.).
