— Boubacar Aw of Hoggard will be an assistant coach for the East girls in the East-West All-Star basketball game at the Greensboro Coliseum annex tonight at 6:30 p.m.

— Gavin Williams (Cape Fear High School, East Carolina) improved to 6-4 for host Cleveland in an 8-2 win over the Athletics on Sunday. Williams allowed four hits with one run (earned) over seven innings with one walk and 11 strikeouts.

— Zach Neto (Campbell) had two hits, three runs, an RBI and a stolen base for the Los Angeles Angels in an 8-2 win at Philadelphia.

— Kon Knueppel (Duke) scored 21 points for Charlotte in an 83-76 win over Sacramento for the NBA Summer League championship in Las Vegas on Sunday night as the Hornets finished 6-0. Knueppel was named league MVP.

— Denny Hamlin won the NASCAR Cup race at Dover. Delaware on Sunday.

— Scottie Scheffler won the British Open by four shots at 17-under par.

— The American Athletic Conference, which includes East Carolina, has changed its name to the American Conference.
