The North Carolina state champions from Shallotte start play in the double-elimination bracket of the Diamond Youth Baseball Division 2 AAA (10-and-under) World Series in West Columbia, South Carolina, today.
The local All-Stars play Texas on Field 3 at the Midland Sports Complex at 2 p.m.
The North Carolina representatives were topped, 6-1, by Florida on Friday in a pool play contest that impacted seeding for the tournament bracket.
S.J. Teply delivered an RBI single and Kason Fulford scored the lone run for the local stars on Friday. Preston Lowe had a base hit.
Jax Trent allowed one run with four strikeouts in two innings pitched. Holden Garrett allowed three runs in one inning pitched. Cody Thomas allowed two runs in one inning pitched. Jameson Hardee pitched one scoreless inning.
Shallotte coach Sam Hickman noted that his team is made up of 9-year olds and is facing teams primarily consisting of 10-year olds.
“But we’re going to throw the kitchen sink at them,” Hickman said.
