Shallotte was dealt its first home loss in Old North State League collegiate play on Wednesday night, 17-9, by Oak Island.

The Shallywags had taken a 17-2 road win in the first game for the Loggerheads on June 5.

The second meeting was a 180-degree turn as Rocco Tenuta had a 2-run double and Patrick Boldt drove in a pair with a single for a 4-0 Oak Island lead in the top of the first.

The Wags closed within 4-3 in the bottom of the first but a solo home run by Chance Turner in the third started a string of nine unanswered runs that culminated with a 2-run homer by Boldt in the fifth for a 12-3 advantage for the Loggerheads (3-3).

Designated hitter Branton Jernigan went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the hosts. Ryan Yaroshuk had a hit and four RBIs in the loss.

Each team drew eight walks.

Shallotte slipped to 3-2 in the Coastal Division going into a game at Laurinburg (2-3) on Thursday at 7 p.m.
