— West Brunswick dropped its Coast Conference varsity basketball opener at Laney, 52-40, despite leading, 15-7, after the first quarter. Matthew McKenney had 14 points and Kveon Griffin scored 10 for the Trojans (6-3). Isaac Clarida had 10 rebounds for West and Griffin had six assists.

— In state championship football games at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill on Friday, Watauga topped Middle Creek, 47-25, in the 6-A final and Grimsley defeated Clayton, 24-14, for the 7-A championship.

— State title games today at Lenoir-Rhyne in Hickory include Reidsville vs. Brevard for the 4-A crown at 11 a.m. and Tarboro vs. Murphy for the 2-A championship at 5 p.m.

— Two more state finals will be played at Durham County Stadium today with Shelby opposing Kinston in 3-A at 2 p.m. and Hunt taking on Crest in 5-A at 8 p.m.

— In college football today, Army (6-5) plays Navy (9-2) in Baltimore (CBS, 3 p.m.).

— N.C. State hosts No. 19 Kansas in men’s college basketball today (ESPN, 5:30 p.m.).

— N.C. State defeated Saint Louis, 2-1, in the men’s soccer semifinals of the NCAA Tournament on Friday night and will play Washington for the championship on Monday at 7 p.m. at First Horizon Stadium in Cary.
