The last time West Brunswick beat Whiteville in football was 2019 when many of the current players were in elementary school. West won, 21-0, at Whiteville that year asJay Fletcher completed 8 of 9 passes for 111 yards with two touchdowns.

The Trojans will be looking to end a 4-game losing streak to the Wolfpack as COVID interrupted the series in 2020.

Play resumed with a 64-62 Whiteville win at home in 2022.

As the Wolfpack arrives from their trip down Whiteville Highway (130), the Trojans will be looking to extend a 4-game streak of their own, with two wins to close 2024, a Bash at the Beach triumph and last week’s 34-14 victory over South Brunswick to officially start the season.

“Our biggest thing is making sure we line up properly against their offense (Wing-T),” said West coach Shane Handy. “Run to the football. We need to tackle well and try to out physical them.

“They run belly, sweep, pull the guards and counter. They do it ’til the cows come home.”

Whiteville started the season with a 48-8 win at West Columbus.

On a personal note, Coach Handy’s father is back home after an 11-day hospital stay and is taking antibiotics for an infection that developed with a procedure.

Jaquell Davis will be playing linebacker and running back for West.
