West Brunswick had an open date on the last night of the regular season.
The Trojans found out Sunday that they were the No. 14 seed in the East bracket of the NCHSAA 6-A football playoffs and would have a first round game at home.
West is 6-4 with a 2-game winning streak.
The Trojans will be taking on West Johnston (4-6), the No. 19 seed, which dropped two of its last three, on Friday (November 7) at 7 p.m.
The Trojans practiced Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday after winding up the regular season with a 24-21 win at home over Ashley.
“We had some good work and we’re fairly healthy considering we’ve got two of our main defensive players out for the season (linebacker Tony Sanchez and defensive end Israel Saunders),” said Trojans coach Shane Handy. “Other than that, we’re in pretty good shape, I guess.”
Defensive back Nick Brown will be limited at best.
West Johnston has shown some offensive diversity.
“We’ve got to make sure we line up correctly and run to the football on defense and play with some passion,” Handy said. “Offensively, we’ve just got to take care of the football.
“I feel like we can run the ball fine and feel like we’ll have an okay opportunity to throw some balls, too. Just got to take care of the football.”
Josiah Borton has thrown for 929 yards and 12 touchdowns for West. K’Veon Griffin has five scoring receptions and Jude Surigao has four. Jaquell Davis has 639 rushing yards with 11 TDs.
