Host West Brunswick concluded the Bash at the Beach on Friday night with an 18-7 win over South Stanly in two quarters of play.
The Trojans were originally matched up with Northside-Jacksonville and South Stanly was scheduled to take on Hoggard, but the 2-A Rowdy Rebel Bulls requested not to be matched up against the 8-A Vikings so a switch was made.
Jaquell Davis started the scoring for West with a 31-yard run. The Trojans’ second touchdown was provided by Marzell Stanley on a 53-yard run.
Eden Romero had a 20-yard score on a pass from Josiah Borton.
“I was really pleased with the way we ran the football and hustled around defensively,” said Trojans coach Shane Handy. “Jabari Cumbee (linebacker) was probably the best player on defense for us. He made a lot of tackles and had a really good nose for the football.
“Overall, defensively I thought we played pretty well. We had some stops. Offensively we missed a couple of fourth down conversions that, I mean one by probably four inches that I thought we had.
“As the game went on, we ran the ball pretty well. Threw the ball at times really well.
“We had some drops, had a couple pf key drops, but other than that, we ran the ball well and threw the ball well.
“A scrimmage, we’re just trying some different things and playing some people and not putting all of it out there on film anyway.”
The Trojans will use the scrimmage as a learning tool in getting ready for the season opener at home against South Brunswick on Friday at 7 p.m.
