Trojans take baseball, softball victories over Ashley Eagles

West Brunswick took Carolina Coast Conference wins on Friday night over visiting Ashley in baseball and softball.

The Trojans took a 10-9 win in walk-off fashion in baseball when an Eagles error allowed the deciding run in the ninth inning.

West was an 11-5 winner in softball to improve to 8-3 overall and 3-2 in league play.

Collecting two RBIs each for the Lady Trojans were Pressley Wilson, Paisley Wilson and Kady Long.

Getting hits for West were Grace Hutzell, winning pitcher Olivia Brown (double), Mylee Sneed, Pressley Wilson, Paisley Wilson, Aubrey Brown and Kady Long (double).

Brown allowed seven hits in seven innings with five runs (four earned) while walking six and striking out five.

The Trojans went ahead to stay with three runs in the second inning. West added two in the third, four in the fourth and two more in the sixth.

Baseball

West moved to 5-6 overall and 3-3 in league play with the extra-inning win.

The winning run came in on a grounder to third by Cooper Wilson.

“Another extra inning game,” said Trojans coach Greg Wrape. “The gu
ys showed some grit, coming back a few times before walking it off.”

West responded favorably to deficits of 2-0, 6-5 and 9-7.

Kaleb Faulders went 4-for-4 with four runs, two RBIs and two walks.

Jaden Gore and Cayden Wood each had two hits. Wesley Wilson had a hit and two RBIs. Ethan Click and Josiah Borton each had hits.

Wesley Wilson pitched three and one-third innings. He allowed four hits and four runs (three earned) with five walks.

Faulders went two and two-thirds. He yielded three hits and three runs (one earned) with no walks and two whiffs.

Borton tossed three innings. He gave up two hits and two runs (two earned) with three walks and six strikeouts.

Coming up

The Trojans host Northwood on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in baseball. Green Level comes to West for a 6:30 p.m. start in baseball on Wednesday. The Trojans travel to Laney for a league game on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

West softball hosts Lumberton on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and plays at Laney in a Carolina Coast contest on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
