— West Brunswick sophomore Luke Helms was second in the shot put in the 6-A track and field East regional at Swansboro on Saturday with a heave of 44 feet, six inches and qualified for the state meet Saturday at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro.

— The Brunswick Community College baseball team (46-9) meets Wake Tech (30-22) at Grainger Stadium in Kinston today at 10 a.m. for the Region 10 South Atlantic district championship and a berth in the Junior College Division II World Series in Enid, Oklahoma. The Eagles topped the Dolphins, 5-2, on Monday.
