The Southeastern Christian Academy varsity boys basketball team is No. 1 in the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association rankings for the 1-A class by MaxPreps.

The Warriors are 11-3 after a 99-77 win at Scotland Christian on Friday night.

Second place in the MaxPreps rankings is held by Victory Christian of Charlotre (8-14), the defending state champions, with a strong strength of schedule component.

Crossroads Christian (11-5) of Henderson is third and Cape Fear Christian Academy (9-4) of Erwin is ranked fourth.

Southeastern is trending upward as a pair of matchups with Whiteville would indicate. The Wolfpack topped the Warriors, 55-45, in a holiday tournament at North Myrtle Beach on December 22.

The Warriors downed visiting Whiteville, 72-60, at home on Tuesday night.

“We did a much better job of handling their pressure,” said Southeastern coach Mike Absher of the second game with Whiteville. “We also rebounded at both ends of the floor well.

“We also did a great job of controlling the tempo.”

Ziyon Smith had 25 points and 13 rebounds on January 6. Uzziah Marlowe had 15 points and five assists. Kolby Smith scored 13 points. Grady Price had seven points and 11 rebounds.
