West Brunswick battled to extend a 5-game winning streak at home before being dealt a 28-14 Carolina Coastal Conference loss by New Hanover on Friday night.
Down 13-0 at the half, the Trojans rallied to lead 14-13.
Capitalizing on turnovers enabled the comeback.
Israel Sanders got West on the board on a 35-yard option pitch with 4:05 left in the third quarter. The score came after a fumble recovery return by Jabari Cumbee.
A pass deflection by Trey Evans that resulted in an interception by Jamon Holmes at the New Hanover 40 led to the go-ahead score on a 2-yard run by Marzell Stanley with 1:15 left in the third quarter.
Maddie Richardson kicked both extra points for the Trojans (4-4, 1-3 CCC).
The Wildcats (3-4, 2-1) went ahead to stay on a 4-yard quarterback draw by junior Tanahri Johnson, who completed 12 of 17 for 167 yards with one TD and kept 11 times for 68 yards with two scores.
West was without free safety/wide receiver K’Veon Griffin and defensive back/wide receiver Nick Brown due to injuries. Defensive end Tony Sanchez went out with a lower leg injury early in the game and may be lost for the season.
The Trojans will be looking to regroup for a game at Topsail (0-8, 0-4) on Friday night.
