Seasoned West rolls into third round with 63-43 win

A grueling Carolina Coast Conference schedule against 7-A and 8-A opponents is paying off for West Brunswick in the NCHSAA 6-A basketball playoffs.

The Trojans, the No. 10 seed in the East bracket, subdued No. 7 Terry Sanford (18-7) by a 63-43 margin on the Bulldogs’ home floor in the second round on Thursday night.

Matthew McKenney had 16 points for West (18-10). McKenney hit four of nine from behind the arc.

Kveon Griffin had 12 points, seven assists and seven steals.

Isaac Clarida had nine points and 11 rebounds.

The Trojans had a 27-14 lead at the half and remained in control.

West coach Bryant Edwards was able to rest some starters for a third-round contest at Greenville Rose (19-5) on Saturday at 5 p.m.
