West Brunswick is 1-1 after a pair of road games with South Brunswick and Whiteville going into its first home game on Friday night at 7 p.m.
The Trojans will take on North Myrtle Beach (2-0), which has victories over Socastee (31-7) at home and Darlington (24-17), away.
A West comeback from an 18-0 deficit fell short in a 39-36 loss to the Wolfpack last week.
“The important thing is cleaning up some things we were not able to execute,” said Trojans coach Aaron Powell.
West had 475 yards rushing at Whiteville, but was just three for 11 passing for 17 yards with two interceptions.
Matoshi Lance had 12 carries for 242 yards with two touchdowns. Josiah Borton had 12 keepers for 138 yards and two scores. Marquez Stanley ran 11 times for 77 yards with a TD.
“We want to run the football and fly around on defense,” said Powell, who continues to serve as defensive coordinator in his first year as head coach.
Powell said rangy outside linebacker Israel Saunders is close to returning from a knee injury that sidelined him last season.
The Chiefs topped the Trojans, 24-12, last year in Little River but lost seven of their last eight in a 3-8 season.
West went 7-5 in its last season with Shane Handy coaching and reached the second round of the 6-A playoffs in 2025.
“I think we can expect a little more from the passing game,” Powell said. “But we’re going to take what the defense gives us and do whatever gives us the best chance to be successful.”
