West Brunswick took Carolina Coast Conference wins over visiting North Brunswick on Friday night.
The Trojans won, 8-6, in baseball and downed the Scorpions, 6-1, in softball.
West improved to 10-9 overall and 5-4 in league play at baseball despite a 6-run fourth inning by North that tied the score at 6.
“Good effort all the way around, especially after giving up a 6-run lead,” said West coach Greg Wrape. “Showing some grit to come back and win. Josiah (Borton) had a big night at the plate.”
Borton was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.
The Trojans got the go-ahead run in the fifth on a deep fly to left by Kaleb Faulders that was not caught with two out, allowing Cayden Wood to come home from first base.
Faulders and Wood each had a hit and an RBI. Also getting hits for West were Fisher Hair, Jaden Gore and Matthew Argo.
Hair had two stolen bases and scored a run.
Cooper Wilson pitched five innings. He allowed seven hits and six runs, only one of which was earned. He walked two and struck out three.
Faulders pitched two hitless, scoreless frames with no walks and one whiff.
The Trojans visit league leading New Hanover (13-5, 7-1) on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
Softball
West freshman Pressley Wilson pitched a 2-hitter with two walks and 16 strikeouts for the Trojans (13-5, 4-4).
Mylee Sneed had three hits with two doubles, two runs and two stolen bases.
Kady Long had two hits and two RBIs.
Also getting hits for the Trojans were Olivia Brown and Natalie Ward.
West went ahead to stay with four runs in the bottom of the first.
The Trojans have a nonconference game at East Columbus on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
