Yaroshuk leads Wags’ 17-10 ONSL victory over Oak Island

Ryan Yaroshuk had a huge night as Shallotte closed its Old North State League regular season with a 17-10 baseball win over Oak Island at Mike Alderson Field at West Brunswick on Sunday.

The Shallywags shortstop from Lurleen B. Wallace Community College in Greenville, Alabama, went 5-fpr-6 with two doubles, his second grand slam in two games, seven RBIs and three runs.

The triumph included a 6-run fourth inning for an 11-8 lead after the Loggerheads had taken an 8-5 advantage with seven runs in the top of the fourth.

Shallotte finished its regular season with a 5-game winning streak and a 17-13 record while Oak Island slipped to 16-13.

The top four in the Shallywags order led the way with 14 of the team’s 16 hits. Leadoff man Trey Pierce had three hits and scored three runs.

Second batter Payton Hankins had two hits, three walks and four runs as he hit in front of Yaroshuk. Clean-up hitter Jude Morton had four hits with two doubles, four RBIs and two runs.

Michael Royston had a hit and an RBI. Landon Everhart had a hit and drove in a pair.
